Laser Hair Removal Risks – What You Should Watch Out For

If you are looking into laser hair removal treatments then you may be aware of the many great benefits that come with it. It can help to improve your appearance and is also non-surgical, but there are some laser hair removal risks that you should especially watch out for. There are some dangerous side effects that can take place, but there are some things that you could do that could make the risks even worse.

One of the main laser hair removal risks is that of choosing the wrong doctor. You can avoid this risk by consulting a qualified physician for assistance with the process. You should also check on the training that the person has taken in the past. A skin test should be used too so that you can tell if your skin will be receptive to the laser hair removal process. Of course, checking on the experience that the physician has with different skin types would help too.

There are other laser hair removal risks that you can control by yourself. You should not use laser hair removal on burnt or suntanned skin because it can be damaged during the process. Also, if you are looking to remove blonde, grey or white hairs then you should not use it because the hairs do not have the melanin to get the results you want. Also, if you have taken any light-sensitive medications you should not use the treatment. Your skin could easily burn in this case.

There are some side effects of laser hair removal that are short term yet dangerous laser hair removal risks. Blistering, crusting of the skin and erosions in the treated area can occur. Also, general pains can be present in the area at times. Skin discoloration can be common in some cases along with oedema, erythema and purpura. Most of the time these laser hair removal risks are a result of Alexandrite and Ruby lasers. Seasonal variation and sun exposure are also factors. Fortunately, these effects are going to be short term in most cases.

Laser hair removal treatments are safe with some precautions. The level of sun exposure before treatment and the location of the area of treatment are major considerations. It is best to let the tan disappear or to use a laser with high melanin absorption levels to avoid any laser hair removal risks.

Those are just some of the laser hair removal risks to watch for. While many of them can be easily avoided with general methods that you can use it is best to still be aware of the risks that can be present. For more information on laser hair removal risks be sure to contact the American Society for Dermatological Surgery for further information on what you should and should not do for preparation.
